Hipster Club — Putting the HIP Back in Hip Replacement
Hip Buddy Program

Become a Hip Buddy

Been There? Be There for Someone Else.

If you've been through hip replacement, you probably remember the questions, nerves, frustrations and little victories that came with it. Your experience may be exactly what another Hipster needs.

Been There? Be There for Someone Else.

If you've been through hip replacement, you probably remember the questions, nerves, frustrations and little victories that came with it.

Maybe someone helped you through it. Maybe you figured out a lot of it on your own.

Either way, what you learned along the way may be exactly what another Hipster needs.

You don't need to be an expert. You don't need to have all the answers.

A Hip Buddy is simply someone willing to listen, encourage and share what their own hip replacement experience was really like.

Sometimes "I've been there" is the most comforting thing someone can hear.

What Does a Hip Buddy Do?

Check in with someone before surgery
Offer encouragement during early recovery
Share their own personal hip replacement experience
Talk about the emotional side of becoming bionic
Share practical things they learned along the way
Celebrate milestones
Listen when someone simply needs to talk
Help another Hipster feel less alone

No white coat required. Just a bionic hip, a little empathy and a willingness to be there.

A Hip Buddy Is a Buddy, Not a Doctor.

Hip Buddy is about peer support and shared experience.

Hip Buddies do not diagnose symptoms, interpret medical problems, recommend medications, change recovery instructions or replace someone's surgeon, physical therapist or healthcare team.

Every hip is different. Every recovery is different.

When it's medical, we send it back to the medical people.

The Hip Buddy Promise

Hip Buddy works because it's human, supportive and respectful. Before joining, every Hip Buddy agrees to a few simple things:

  • I will listen without judgment.
  • I will respect my Hip Buddy's privacy.
  • I will share my own experience rather than tell someone what they should do.
  • I understand that every hip replacement and recovery is different.
  • I will not diagnose symptoms.
  • I will not recommend starting, stopping or changing medications.
  • I will not override instructions from someone's surgeon, physical therapist or healthcare team.
  • I will encourage medical questions to go back to the person's healthcare team.
  • I will respect boundaries and understand that either person may end the connection at any time.
