A double Hipster's honest account of fear, surgery, recovery, and the community born from it all.
I learned early in life that I would need both hips replaced. What began as research for my own survival turned into a mission to help others.
I built communities, shared information, and connected people so they wouldn't have to go through it alone. Over time, that passion grew into advocacy, media opportunities, and a platform to give patients the guidance I once wished I had.
My first hip replacement used the traditional posterior approach. Like many patients, I navigated the precautions, the recovery restrictions, and the emotional weight of a major surgery — largely without a roadmap. That experience became the seed of Hipster Club.
My second hip replacement used the anterior approach — a different technique with different recovery dynamics. Having been through it once before, I was better prepared, but still surprised by how different the two experiences were. The anterior approach typically means fewer restrictions and faster early mobility, but every body is different.
“I built communities, shared information, and connected people so they wouldn't have to go through it alone.”
— Jodi Seidler, Founder, Hipster Club
After my surgeries, I realized how alone most patients feel — not because their doctors don't care, but because the medical system doesn't have time to hold your hand through every fear, every question, every 3am worry.
Hipster Club exists to fill that gap. Not with medical advice — I'm not a doctor — but with real experience, honest information, and the kind of community that makes the journey feel less isolating.
If you're facing hip replacement, you deserve to feel informed, supported, and confident. That's what this is for.
Whether you're just beginning to explore hip replacement or already on the other side, Hipster Club is here.
